Marseille is located on the Mediterranean Sea and is the oldest and second largest city in France.  Marseille is strategically located because of the rail link that connects the city directly to Paris. Marseille is one of the favorite tourist destinations especially for a fantastic holiday weekend. Since it’s a port, beaches are one of the reasons people come to visit.

For tourists, Marseilles offers the old harbour (le Vieux Port). This is a great spot to watch fishermen selling their stock by auction. Notre Dame de la Garde a religious buildings that are well worth checking out offers a view of the city. The trendy area of Marseilles is le Cours Julien and la plaine, and it has nice bookstores, cafés, and fountains. Visitors to Marseilles must try La Bouillabaisse de Marseille, which is an excellent fish-based soup. Last but not least, Chateau d'If, on a small island just off the coast of Marseille, is an unmissible 16th-century château that became the famous prison which once held the Count of Monte Cristo.
